The book is a literary study of the major characteristics of the tales of One Thousand and One Nights. This study discusses particularly the armor of illusion in the Nights, the gods, the jinn, women, magic, the fantastic and fabulous, realism, and controversy. Rihani highlights the Arab genius of the creators of the tales as well as its western translators. He ended this book with a comparative study of the three English translations, namely those of Edward Lane, John Payne, and Richard Burton, including samples of their work.
